Turns out there’s a conspiracy involving some ex-special forces on both sides, a doomsday scenario develops, our heroes save the day in the nick of time, yadda yadda. The government offers a 300 million woolong reward, and off to the races we go. As Faye (Megumi Hayashibara / Wendee Lee) chases a seemingly small-fry hacker (Yūji Ueda / Dave Wittenberg), she’s caught up in an explosion that spreads a mysterious biochemical agent. It all starts, as usual, with a bounty head. ![]() It’s great to see the gang in widescreen, and the animation and backgrounds make ample use of the format, but the plot and pacing leave much to be desired. Directed by Shinichirō Watanabe and written by Keiko Nobumoto, Cowboy Bebop: The Movie ( Kaubōi Bibappu: Tengoku no Tobira / カウボーイビバップ 天国の扉 2001, aka Cowboy Bebop: Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door), which fits between sessions 22 and 23 of the Cowboy Bebop (1998-99) series, is highly uneven. ![]()
